Editorial Standards, Medical Review, and Content Integrity
Website: https://www.benvitalfive.com
Policy owner: Jesu Raj Athisayam, Founder & Editor
Effective date: 26 October 2026
Policy review: Annually, or earlier when necessary
- Our Editorial Mission
BenVitalFive is a health and wellness platform dedicated to providing reliable, understandable, practical, and evidence-informed information that helps readers make informed decisions about healthy living.
Our content covers nutrition, physical activity, yoga, preventive health, mental well-being, lifestyle habits, and related subjects.
We believe that health encompasses more than food, calories, or body weight. It includes physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.
Our editorial mission is to make trustworthy information accessible to everyday readers while respecting scientific evidence, professional expertise, cultural context, and individual differences.
- Core Editorial Principles
All content published on BenVitalFive must follow these principles:
- Accuracy: Medical, scientific, and nutritional claims must be checked against credible evidence.
- Evidence-based communication: We prioritise authoritative guidelines, systematic reviews, peer-reviewed research, and recognised public-health sources.
- Reader safety: Content must not encourage dangerous practices, delay necessary medical care, or promote unsupported cures.
- Transparency: Authors, reviewers, qualifications, sources, and relevant commercial relationships must be represented honestly.
- Independence: Editorial decisions must prioritise readers’ interests rather than commercial or personal interests.
- Respect: We avoid stigma, discrimination, fear-based messaging, and unrealistic promises about health or appearance.
- Accountability: We correct significant errors and update content when important evidence or guidance changes.
Our standards are informed by relevant principles in the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) Recommendations.
- Editorial Team and Responsibilities
3.1 Founder and Editor
Jesu Raj Athisayam — Founder & Editor, BenVitalFive
The Founder and Editor is responsible for:
- Planning the editorial calendar and selecting article topics.
- Coordinating research, writing, editing, SEO, and publication.
- Assigning appropriate reviewers according to subject matter.
- Ensuring that citations, disclosures, and reviewer credits are accurate.
- Incorporating review feedback and resolving editorial questions.
- Maintaining publication records and coordinating corrections.
- Protecting editorial independence and ensuring that the policy is followed.
The Founder and Editor retains responsibility for website management and publication decisions. Medical reviewers provide professional review within their agreed scope; they are not automatically responsible for every statement on the website.
3.2 Dt. Poojitha L. Acharya — Medical Reviewer and Editorial Board Member
Dt. Poojitha L. Acharya has accepted the invitation to collaborate with BenVitalFive.
Her proposed areas of contribution include:
- Clinical dietetics and nutrition.
- Nutrition-related aspects of diabetes and metabolic health.
- Weight management.
- PCOS-related nutrition and lifestyle education.
- Gut health and general wellness nutrition.
- Evidence-based nutrition guidance.
Her agreed initial workload is approximately 2–4 articles per month, depending on length, complexity, and availability, with a proposed review period of 3–5 working days.
Her role is to assess content within her professional competence, identify unsupported or potentially harmful claims, recommend corrections, and suggest appropriate references.
Her professional credentials and designation must be confirmed with her before publication.
3.3 Dr. Visalam Ramanathan — Medical Reviewer and Honorary Editorial Board Member
Dr. Visalam Ramanathan has accepted the invitation to serve as an honorary member of the BenVitalFive Editorial Board and to review four articles per month, subject to the agreed review scope and scheduling.
Potential areas of contribution, subject to confirmation of her professional scope, include:
- Human physiology and preventive health.
- Lifestyle-related health education.
- Integrative health approaches.
- Yoga-related well-being.
- Other relevant topics within her verified qualifications and expertise.
Her role includes evaluating the accuracy and balance of relevant health claims, recommending credible scientific sources, and providing editorial guidance where appropriate.
Her medical qualifications, current professional registration, and preferred designation must be verified before the website publishes a formal professional profile.
The term honorary describes her Editorial Board appointment. It does not, by itself, determine whether article reviews are paid or unpaid. Any compensation must be agreed separately.
3.4 Mr. Dhinesh — Yoga and Physical Activity Contributor
Mr. Dhinesh has a B.A., B.P.Ed., and an M.Sc. in Yoga from Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, as supplied for this policy. He works as a Physical Education Director and Yoga Coach at Velumanickam Matriculation Higher Secondary School and has accepted the invitation to collaborate.
His proposed areas of contribution include:
- Yoga education and safe practice.
- Physical fitness and everyday movement.
- Beginner-friendly yoga guidance.
- Relaxation and general well-being practices.
- School-age physical activity and healthy habits.
His role is educational and practical. Medical treatment claims, disease-specific recommendations, and claims about curing or preventing illness require appropriate clinical evidence and, where necessary, qualified medical review.
His final designation, workload, and any compensation arrangements should be agreed with him.
3.5 Mr. Michael David—Science Education and Research Support Contributor
Mr. Michael David holds M.Sc. and B.Ed. qualifications and works as a chemistry teacher and librarian at Velumanickam Matriculation Higher Secondary School, as supplied for this policy. He has accepted the invitation to collaborate.
His proposed areas of contribution include:
- Explaining general scientific and chemistry concepts.
- Supporting science literacy and educational clarity.
- Helping identify, organise, and check relevant reference materials.
- Supporting the presentation of scientific information for general readers.
His contribution does not constitute medical review or clinical endorsement. Health-related claims outside his professional expertise must be assessed by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
His final designation, workload, and any compensation arrangements should be agreed with him.
3.6 Editorial Board Principles
Editorial Board members provide professional guidance within their areas of expertise. Board membership does not imply that a member has written, reviewed, or endorsed every article published on BenVitalFive.
Board members may recommend topics, sources, standards, and improvements to the editorial process. Their names and credentials may be displayed only with their permission and after the relevant details have been verified.
- Article Research and Source Standards
Every substantive health article must be supported by suitable evidence.
Preferred sources include:
- The World Health Organization (WHO).
- India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
- The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
- The National Medical Commission (NMC), where relevant to medical registration and professional verification.
- The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), for food safety and relevant food-related guidance.
- Peer-reviewed systematic reviews, meta-analyses, clinical guidelines, and well-designed research studies.
- Recognised professional organisations and public-health institutions.
Useful official resources include:
Writers must evaluate sources for relevance, quality, date, limitations, and applicability to the article’s claims.
A single small study must not be presented as definitive proof. Observational associations must not be described as proof of causation. Animal or laboratory research must not automatically be presented as evidence of benefit in humans.
When evidence is limited, inconsistent, or evolving, the article must communicate that uncertainty clearly.
- Medical Review Policy
Medical review is required for articles containing substantive clinical advice, disease-related claims, potentially consequential health recommendations, or other material requiring specialist judgement.
The Editor will assign articles according to the reviewer’s qualifications and professional expertise.
The review process should consider:
- Accuracy of medical and scientific statements.
- Quality and relevance of supporting references.
- Whether the article reflects current authoritative guidance.
- Potential risks, contraindications, and relevant limitations.
- Whether recommendations are appropriately qualified.
- Whether readers are advised to seek professional care when necessary.
- Whether the language is understandable and avoids misleading certainty.
Reviewers may recommend revisions, request additional evidence, decline an assignment outside their expertise, or advise that specialist review is necessary.
A reviewer’s name may appear on an article only when that reviewer has actually reviewed the relevant content. The reviewer credit should include the appropriate designation and review date.
If substantial changes affecting medical claims are made after review, the revised material should be returned to the reviewer when necessary before retaining the original review attribution.
Medical review does not guarantee that every statement is error-free, and it does not replace an individual’s consultation with a healthcare professional.
- Editorial Workflow and Deadlines
The standard workflow is:
- Topic selection: The Editor identifies the reader need and the scope of the article.
- Research and drafting: The article is prepared using suitable evidence and references.
- Editorial screening: The draft is checked for structure, clarity, sourcing, and potentially risky claims.
- Expert review: The relevant reviewer receives the draft and a proposed deadline.
- Revision: The Editor incorporates appropriate feedback and resolves outstanding concerns.
- Final checks: Citations, disclosures, author information, reviewer credits, and publication details are checked.
- Publication: The final article is published when editorial requirements have been met.
- Monitoring and updating: Material errors and significant developments are assessed after publication.
The proposed standard medical review period is 3–5 working days, subject to the reviewer’s availability and article complexity. Deadlines must be confirmed for individual assignments.
Monthly review targets are planning estimates, not obligations to accept every assignment. Additional work requires mutual agreement.
- Health and Medical Disclaimer
BenVitalFive publishes general educational information. Its articles are not a substitute for individual diagnosis, treatment, or medical advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
Readers should consult an appropriate healthcare professional for personal medical concerns, persistent symptoms, medication decisions, pregnancy-related concerns, or the management of a diagnosed condition.
Articles must not instruct readers to stop prescribed medication, avoid necessary medical care, or replace evidence-based treatment with unproven remedies.
Where relevant, content should explain important limitations, contraindications, and circumstances requiring professional assessment.
Emergency symptoms must be directed to appropriate local emergency services rather than managed through online educational content.
- Nutrition, Supplements, and Food Safety
Nutrition-related articles must distinguish established nutritional guidance from emerging research, personal opinion, and unsupported claims.
Writers and reviewers should:
- Avoid promising rapid or guaranteed weight loss.
- Avoid portraying individual foods as cures for complex diseases.
- Explain that nutritional needs differ according to age, health status, activity, and other relevant factors.
- Avoid recommending supplements as substitutes for a balanced diet or prescribed treatment.
- Explain relevant risks and interactions when discussing supplements.
- Use authoritative food safety guidance when discussing storage, preparation, hygiene, and contamination.
- Avoid presenting restrictive diets as universally appropriate.
Food safety claims should be checked against suitable sources, including FSSAI guidance and relevant public-health recommendations.
- Yoga, Exercise, and Lifestyle Content
Yoga and physical activity articles must provide practical guidance without exaggerating health benefits.
Content should:
- Explain movements and practices clearly.
- Encourage gradual progression and appropriate modifications.
- Mention relevant safety considerations.
- Avoid suggesting that a posture, breathing technique, or exercise cures a disease without reliable evidence.
- Recognise that some practices may not be appropriate for everyone.
- Recommend professional advice when a reader has a condition or limitation that could make an activity unsafe.
Personal experiences and traditional practices may be included when clearly identified as such, but they must not be presented as proof of medical effectiveness.
- Accuracy, Updates, and Corrections
BenVitalFive aims to correct significant factual errors transparently.
When an error is reported, the Editor will assess its accuracy, significance, and potential effect on reader safety.
Depending on the issue, action may include:
- Correcting a typographical or minor factual error.
- Revising an outdated or misleading statement.
- Consulting the relevant reviewer.
- Adding an explanatory correction note where appropriate.
- Temporarily removing content that presents a material safety risk.
Substantive health articles should be reviewed periodically and updated when significant new evidence, authoritative guidance, or safety information makes an update necessary.
The original publication date and most recent substantive update date should be displayed accurately. A date must not be changed merely to make an article appear newly published.
These practices are consistent with the general principles of transparency and correction described in the ICMJE guidance on corrections and version control.
- Conflicts of Interest and Commercial Independence
Authors, reviewers, and contributors should disclose relevant financial or non-financial interests that could reasonably affect, or appear to affect, their work.
Examples include:
- Financial relationships with a product or supplement company.
- Ownership of a business or product discussed in an article.
- Paid promotional relationships.
- Relevant professional or personal relationships.
- Other interests that could influence the presentation of evidence.
The Editor will assess appropriate disclosure, independent review, or reassignment where a conflict could compromise the credibility of an article.
Commercial sponsorship must not be allowed to dictate medical conclusions or suppress material safety information. Sponsored or affiliate content must be identified transparently.
Editorial decisions must not be based solely on commercial benefit.
- Authorship, Attribution, and Professional Profiles
Articles must identify authors and contributors accurately.
A person should not be described as an author merely because they hold an Editorial Board position. Similarly, Board membership does not establish that a person reviewed a particular article.
Medical reviewer credits must reflect actual review activity. Contributor credits should describe the contribution genuinely made.
Before a professional profile is published, BenVitalFive will seek approval for the person’s name, preferred designation, qualifications, biography, and photograph.
Qualifications and professional registrations must be represented accurately. Where registration verification is relevant, the appropriate official register should be consulted.
The ICMJE guidance on authorship and contributions provides a useful reference for distinguishing authorship from other contributions.
- Confidentiality and Responsible Use of Technology
Unpublished drafts, reviewer comments, and private correspondence must be treated as confidential.
Reviewers and contributors should not distribute unpublished material without permission or use confidential information for personal or commercial advantage.
External tools, including artificial intelligence systems, must not be given confidential drafts or sensitive information unless their use is authorised and privacy and confidentiality safeguards are appropriate.
AI-assisted research or writing must be checked by a responsible human editor. AI-generated references, quotations, qualifications, and medical claims must be verified against genuine sources.
AI must not be treated as a substitute for professional medical judgement.
- Reader Feedback, Complaints, and Corrections
BenVitalFive welcomes good-faith feedback about accuracy, clarity, sourcing, and potential safety concerns.
Readers may contact the Editor through the website’s designated contact channel, identifying the relevant article and explaining the concern.
The Editor will review the issue and, where appropriate, consult the relevant reviewer or subject expert.
Concerns about potentially harmful health information will be prioritised. Corrective action will be taken when warranted, and material changes will be documented where appropriate.
- Independence and Scope of Editorial Board Members
Editorial Board members may provide advice and recommendations, but they are not automatically responsible for the entire website or every publication decision.
Members may decline work that falls outside their expertise, disclose a conflict of interest, or request that their name not be associated with material they have not reviewed.
Membership, honorary status, and reviewer attribution must be described accurately. Compensation and other terms must be established through separate mutual agreement where applicable.
BenVitalFive may revise this policy as its editorial operations develop. Material changes will be communicated to relevant team members.
- Policy Review and Commitment
This policy will be reviewed at least annually and earlier if significant changes in editorial practice, professional guidance, or applicable requirements make revision necessary.
All contributors are encouraged to follow these standards and to raise concerns when content may be inaccurate, misleading, or unsafe.
Our commitment: BenVitalFive will strive to publish information that is evidence-informed, responsibly reviewed, transparent about its limitations, and useful to readers seeking healthier and more informed lives.

Before publishing this policy
I recommend completing these four steps first:
- Obtain approval from each named team member for their designation, biography, and inclusion in the policy.
- Confirm Dt. Poojitha’s and Dr. Visalam’s professional credentials and appropriate reviewer scope.
- Agree with each contributor on workload, compensation, and attribution separately.
- Make sure the published policy describes the review process you actually follow, rather than implying that every article receives medical review.
The external standards cited above provide a useful foundation, but this document is an editorial policy for a health and wellness website, not a claim that BenVitalFive is a medical journal or that all content undergoes formal peer review.
